Make decisions about how you would like to be cared for later in life

A Will is a legal document that sets out clearly your wishes about how you would like your estate to be distributed after your death.  It also allows you to specify who is to be responsible for dealing with your estate and all the formalities that follow. It is wise, therefore, to give the terms of your Will and your beneficiaries considerable thought.

Will Writing Solicitors

Morr & Co's Will writing solicitors, many of whom are STEP-qualified, will help you to write a Will that ensures your assets are distributed as you intend.

It is a common misconception that, in the absence of a Will, your estate is automatically inherited by your surviving spouse or civil partner. Dying intestate – in other words, without a valid Will – may leave your family and others with considerable work to do at a difficult and uncertain time for them. It will also mean that your estate will almost certainly not be distributed in the way that you might want and that a proportion of the estate you have worked so hard to build will be dissipated needlessly in tax or legal fees, instead of benefitting loved ones and good causes.

Despite the ease with which a Will can be made, and the risks associated with not having a valid Will in place, the National Consumer Council estimates that more than two-thirds of British adults have not made a Will. Government figures suggest there are currently around 3,600 spouses and civil partners who are at risk of losing their family home as it may need to be sold in order to pay the tax and other liabilities that can often arise when a person dies intestate.

By taking advice from one of our qualified solicitors, you will find that making a Will can be simple and straightforward. It will also give you absolute confidence that you have control over your estate and what happens to it after your death, thus providing much-needed peace of mind for you and your family.

If you are a business owner or have business interests, a Will should also be a fundamental part of your succession planning. Our specialist lawyers will work with our Corporate & Commercial department and your corporate advisers to maximise any tax-saving opportunities that might be available.
